 1. SARS-CoV-2 variant Omicron

This weekend. B.1.1.529, discovered in south Africa, had already spread through Asia and Europe, which alarmed the world. According to CCTV News reported, during local time on November 26, WHO convened an emergency meeting for B.1.1.529. A declaration was released after the meeting, the variant was named as Omicron.

The mutant virus sample was collected on November 9. Two weeks later, WHO declared that the new variant was detected from South Africa on November 24. What people concerned about is that Omicron has a large number of mutations, Preliminary studies have shown that compared with other "mutants that need attention," this mutant has an increased risk of re-infection with the virus. Currently, the number of cases infected with this mutant is increasing in almost all provinces of South Africa.

Strictly preventing the spread of the new mutant Omicron has become a new target for fighting against the global epidemic. Within two days from the 26th to the 27th, most countries have imposed cross-border flights and travel bans against South Africa and several neighboring countries that first reported Omicron, and image of Omicron have been released.

Researchers said, the new coronavirus is able to adapt human body through mutation, but not means that would be more dangerous.
